Protecting Your Biggest Investment – You

As a freelancer or business owner, you probably work long hours, and more than likely the weekends too. It is hard to put down your business and take a nap or read a book for fun. The never-ending to-do list can keep you focused and awake into the small hours.

Freelancing or your small business is most likely paying the bills, and those tasty projects are what get you out of bed each and every day.

But without you, the whole empire will come tumbling down.

So how are you going to protect your most significant investment? How will you protect yourself?

Alarm Systems

Your home should be protected at all times. If you have several essential files on your laptop or computer, hard disk drives and files – what would happen if someone broke in and stole them? Ensure that you protect your physical property and your personal safety at night by installing a CCTV system and alarm system.

Insurances

After your CCTV system, it is time to check that all of your personal items, work items and car have the right insurance. If you were to get into a car accident, for example, the magnitude of that disaster could leave you and your business in a bad way. Having the right car accident attorney and the right insurance will mean you have the financial support when you need it more.

Pomodoro

A working schedule is going to do wonders for your productivity. Giving yourself time slots for working will put Parkinson’s Law in your favour. Using deadlines to increase your output. Not only that but the timers will provide you with a designated break that can help you get hydrated and take a moment away from your computer.

Hobbies

Hobbies are proven to make people happier. Although work can give a solid sense of achievement and satisfaction, hobbies can bring that too. Aside from making money, what do you love to do? What makes you happy? Learning new skills increases our confidence and self-esteem, making it ideal for people who freelance and/or own a business too.

Outside interests and hobbies can positively impact your business by feeding your soul and giving you room to relax after a hard day of decision making.

Rest

Your rest is as essential as you work. Working long hours is great if it feels good and brings profit, but you have to rest and recharge. Several apps can help you relax in the evenings like the Calm app or Headspace. They have a range of sleep stories that can help you unwind and drift off to sleep. Not only that but they have several guided meditations and morning stretches that can help you get your day off to a great start.

Health

You should be walking or doing some exercise for at least 30 minutes each day. Not only is this great for your health, but it is good for your mental health too. Giving your brain a break from working allows it to make a range of connections that you hadn’t got to before. If you often find that you have brilliant ideas on your walk, then take headphones and your phone, so you can dictate quickly.

You are the most significant investment you will ever make. Protection from accidents, theft and your health should be the foundations of the empire that you are building.
